Mastery often comes only through intense focus.

Verdant focuses almost exclusively on pale, hop-forward beers, and the head brewer James Heffron has no qualms about the direction he has taken the brewery towards.

“What we don’t want to do is feel like we need to brew other beers because that is what we are supposed to do. We always make the beers that we want to drink,” James says, “We can still make better IPAs, double IPAs and pale ales than we are at the moment, and that’s what I think about when I go to bed at night, and when I come in here first thing in the morning. Before totally jumping onto other styles, let’s just nail the style we are making at the moment.”

Their team has a very clear idea about what an ideal IPA should be, “In the brewery we’ve come back to thinking that sometimes when you go for a drink with friends, you just want to go to the bar and say, ‘Same again, please,’” Adam Robertson (co-founder) says. “If you can brew an IPA with all the hop characters, but still be able to say, ‘I’ll have another one and another one’, then that’s the holy grail.”

Instead of a punchy, “in your face” hop-forward beer, expect an elegant beer with the complex subtlety that takes time and patience to fully enjoy.

Verdant釀酒嘅風格,可以用「心無旁騖」嚟形容。

精釀啤酒嘅世界多姿多采,酒款千變萬化,但釀酒師James堅持一次只做一件事,專心釀啤酒花主導嘅淡啤酒(pale, hop forward beers),「我哋想釀返自己鍾意飲嘅啤酒,而唔係迎合其他人、做佢哋覺得我哋『應該』做嘅嘢。與其顧左顧右,諗釀其他酒款,不如努力專心做好一件事、釀好一隻IPA。」

目標明確、釀酒技術始終如一,係Verdant七年來一直維持住英國神檯級酒廠嘅原因。而對於神級釀酒師嚟講,點樣先可以稱得上神級嘅IPA呢?Adam話:「對我哋嚟講,最『神級』嘅IPA,係一隻啤酒花味爆哂澎,但味道平易近人、唔會太強勢,可以一pint接住一pint咁飲嘅啤酒。」能夠指住酒杯同酒吧職員示意「整多杯嚟呀」,原來係神級IPA嘅指標!

小編飲咗成罐𝐅𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐀.𝐌.之後,完全感受到佢哋想營造嘅神級體驗——一入口細致溫柔嘅芒果、柑橘味、微甜嘅餅乾麥芽味撐住啤酒花嘅甘苦後勁,配搭綿滑嘅口感; 同部份味道強勢嘅IPA唔一樣,Verdant嘅啤酒係較為優雅嘅,佢精采嘅味道會隨時間醞釀、慢慢滲出嚟,需要花啲耐性去細心欣賞。
