Is it absolutely impossible to turn your hobby into a career?
Kenneth, our Homebrewing Workshop Instructor says no, “It may be hard to make big bucks working in the craft beer industry, but it’s even harder to find a job that I truly love, and that’s the most valuable thing that money cannot buy.”
His “spoiled palate” drove him into the industry 6 years ago, “I started drinking craft beer when I was in uni in New Zealand. It was super easy to find great beers there, but not so much in Hong Kong at that time.”
Kenneth was deciding what he was going to do after graduation. “I was always looking for places where I could find great beers, and then one day, something clicked in my head and I thought, why not find a job in the craft beer industry so I can enjoy great beers every single day?”
It sounds easy to be spending time at work sipping beers and talking about beers, but Kenneth takes his job very seriously, “It’s important for me that I am qualified before teaching others. Being a Certified Beer Judge and the extensive training at Brewcraft certainly helped equip me to be a better instructor.”
Kenneth has been teaching Homebrewing Workshops for over 4 years, and it is still his favorite thing to interact with attendees, “The workshops gather people who are interested in beers, and I get to enjoy a few beers, chat about beers and brew a beer with them. It makes me so happy to see them relaxed and chilling with other classmates, while very interested in learning about the brewing process. This open-mindedness and chill vibe is crucial for a fun and inspiring workshop.”

為興趣、為興趣，興趣可唔可以當飯食㗎？
「夠食就得啦！做精釀啤酒呢行未必可以大富大貴，但每日都可以對住我鍾意嘅嘢，呢個係錢買唔到返嚟嘅！」
Kenneth入行近乎6年，做咗Brewcraft自釀啤酒工作坊導師都有4年之久，佢話入呢行完全係因為佢「被寵壞嘅舌頭」：「細個嘅時候喺紐西蘭讀咗十幾年書，喺大學開始飲精釀啤酒；可能喺紐西蘭飲得好嘢太多，返到嚟香港發現好難先搵到好飲嘅啤酒。」Kenneth話當時香港嘅精釀啤酒仲未好似而家咁普及，要捐窿捐罅先搵到好啤飲，「嗰時啱啱畢業，仲未知自己想做咩工，有日忽發其想——我咁鍾意啤酒，點解唔深入虎穴，入行等自己可以日日飲到好啤？」
返工同人飲吓酒、傾吓計，聽起嚟好似好爽皮，但Kenneth話要達到專業水平、成為可以教人釀酒嘅導師，佢都花咗唔少工夫，「當年要考啤酒評審認證試，都真係唔容易！不過要考到專業認證同受過培訓，先有資格教人㗎嘛！」
「自釀啤酒工作坊嘅美妙之處，係可以凝聚一班喜歡飲啤酒嘅人，一齊飲吓啤酒、講吓啤酒、學吓釀酒。」Kenneth教咗班咁耐，都依然好享受上堂與同學仔嘅互動，「最開心嘅係見到上堂嘅同學仔好放鬆、又好投入，大家唔相識都可以打成一片，唔怕醜問問題，上堂嘅氣氛輕鬆但係又有啟發性，鼓勵大家學新嘢。」
