【𝐁𝐞𝐞𝐫 𝐌𝐲𝐭𝐡𝐁𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬・𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐉𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐁𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭】⁣

Most of us use the terms “taste” and “flavor” interchangeably, yet, this experiment may change your mind!⁣

Get yourself a pack of mix-flavored jelly beans, and follow these instructions:⁣
➊ Hold your nose with one hand.⁣
➋ Pop one jelly bean of unknown flavor into your mouth (don’t swallow it!).⁣
➌ Start chewing for 5 seconds or so, try to figure out the taste of the jelly bean.⁣
➍ Let go of your nose, and notice what you taste.⁣

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐉𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐁𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 is a fun exercise that Cicerone Certification Program uses to illustrate the intimate relationship between our sense of taste and smell.⁣

A lot of us think that we taste food only through the taste buds in our mouth, but as we chew, aromas are released from the food and circulate through the back of our throat to the millions of receptors in our noses. ⁣

When we hold our noses, our sense of smell shuts down and our brains receive very little information about the food we eat. That’s why we could only taste the basic sweetness of the jelly bean instead of its full fruity flavor (and that’s also why when we are sick and our noses are stuffy, food tastes more bland).⁣

Next time when you crack open a beer, try to pour it out in a glass and take a sniff before drinking. You might be surprised by how the aroma can give a whole lot more to your drinking experience!⁣ 🍻⁣


【突破盲腸行動組・啫喱豆小實驗】⁣

人類嘅味覺實在係一門深奧學問。點解咁講?同我哋一齊做吓呢個簡單實驗啦!⁣

先準備一包啫喱豆/果汁軟糖(最好係雜果味),再跟隨以下步驟:⁣
➊ 首先用手指「鏈」住個鼻⁣
➋ 再放一粒啫喱豆落口(最好揀粒唔知味道嘅),唔好吞喎!⁣
➌ 咬大約5秒鐘,估吓啫喱豆嘅味道⁣
➍ 放開手,索返啖氣,再感受一吓味道有冇改變⁣

呢個係啤酒侍酒師認證(Cicerone Certification Program)其中一個入門嘅「啫喱豆」味覺實驗,而呢個實驗嘅有趣之處,就係話比我哋知味覺同嗅覺之間密不可分嘅關係!⁣

所謂嘅「味道」其實係由多種感官刺激結合埋一齊,而嗅覺對味覺嘅影響尤其重要!喺個鼻聞唔到嘢嘅時候,我哋淨係會食得出啫喱豆嘅基本甜味,但係當我哋聞得返嘢嘅時候,啫喱豆裡面嘅其他味道,例如獨特嘅果汁、果酸味就會出返哂嚟!呢個就係點解感冒嘅時候鼻塞塞,食嘢淡而無味嘅原因!⁣

有上過嚟Brewcraft嘅朋友仔,都有機會見過店長們拎住個酒杯嗒嗒嗒,好少會直接拎住個罐、樽嚟飲;除咗係因為分享才是王道,亦都係因為倒落個酒杯度,先可以充份聞到啤酒嘅香氣!⁣
